Privacy Policy

what's collected, what isn't, and why
Last updated: August 2026

The short version

This site doesn't set its own cookies, doesn't use browser storage, and doesn't sell or share personal data with anyone except as described below. The two things this site actually stores are: email addresses submitted through the "get the weekly recap" signup, and a short-lived, anonymized rate-limit counter for the paste-in rewrite tool. Google AdSense, which serves ads on this site, sets its own cookies independently of anything we do — see the "Advertising" section below.

What we collect directly

WhatWhyHow long
Email address (if you sign up for the weekly recap) To notify you when that feature launches Until launch, or until you ask us to delete it
A hashed version of your IP address, when you use the paste-in rewrite tool To enforce the daily free-use limit per visitor and control API costs One day, then automatically superseded by the next day's counter
Text you paste into the rewrite tool Sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate the rewrite (see "Third parties" below) Not stored on our server after the response is returned
Standard web server logs (IP, user agent, requested URL) Normal hosting-provider logging, used only for security and troubleshooting Governed by our hosting provider's retention settings

We don't collect names, addresses, phone numbers, payment details, or any other personal information beyond what's listed above. We don't use the email list for anything except the specific purpose you signed up for.

Third parties this site talks to

We don't use any other analytics, tracking pixels, or third-party scripts beyond what's listed here.

Advertising & cookies

This site is a Google AdSense publisher. Google and its advertising partners use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites, and may use non-personalized ads where required by applicable law. We don't control what Google's ad cookies do beyond what Google's own policies specify.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ad Settings, or by visiting aboutads.info if you're outside a jurisdiction where Google's tool applies. For more detail on how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites that use our services.

Your choices

Want your email removed from the recap signup list, or have a question about anything above that isn't answered here? Reach out on the Contact page and we'll take care of it. Because this is a small, independently-run project rather than a company with a dedicated privacy team, expect a direct human reply rather than an automated request-processing system — but expect a reply.

Changes to this policy

If what this site collects or how it's used changes, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date at the top will reflect it. There's no separate notification mechanism beyond that for a project this size.

This policy describes News Alternative specifically, not any linked third-party site. See the About & Methodology page for how the daily content pipeline works, and Terms for the rules of using this site.
